Weekend Preview 6/12 - 6/15

Jordan Posway
Preview

There will be 11 more National Championship berths up for grabs this weekend, as the Perfect Game Super25 tournament series is in full swing with tournaments in all corners of the nation. With National Championships drawing near, hundreds of teams will duke it out for the remaining spots which will make for some exciting and competitive baseball. Here is a quick preview of this weekend’s events:

Midwest Super Qualifier

It will be a busy weekend in Westfield, Indiana as approximately 126 teams will occupy Grand Park to compete for five National Championship berths. A single champion will be crowned in each of the 13u, 14u, 15u, 16u, and 17u tournaments

The 13u qualifier tournament consists of 19 of the top teams in the Midwest Region. Some teams to keep an eye on are the Ohio Surge, Indiana Prospects-Garwood, LIDS Indiana Bulls-Black, and the St. Louis Pirates. Each of the teams listed have proven themselves to be strong competitors in 2015.

The 14u Indiana Bulls-Black, veterans of the 2014 PG Super25 13u National Championship, headline what should be a very competitive 14u tournament. If they hope to earn a National Championship berth this year, they’ll have to outlast teams such as the Missouri Gators, Indiana Prospects-Stout, and the St. Louis Gamers who could all make deep tournament runs themselves.

The 15u and 16u Midwest Super Qualifiers will be the largest tournaments of the weekend as they will host at least 30 teams each. The 15u Cincinnati Spikes advanced to the playoffs in last year’s National Championship, but will have to go through teams such as the Minnesota Mash and the NOW Bandits Baseball Club if they want to go back. Similar to the Spikes, the Ohio Elite has National Championship experience. The Elite join the Indiana Outlaws and the Illinois Indians as teams who can make some serious noise this weekend.

The 17u age division features two teams that made the National Championship last year in the form of the Indiana Nitro and the Ohio Surge. Both teams are early favorites to win, but the Illinois Steel and Cincinnati Hornets have the talent to compete with any team in the tournament.

15u Southern Ohio Championship

Grooms Park in Blue Ash, Ohio will host 21 teams that will battle for a spot in the PG Super25 15u Ohio Valley Regional set to take place the following weekend. After finishing third in last year’s 14u National Championship, the Tennessee Nights are a team to be reckoned with in the tournament. The Ohio Storm, Cincinnati Bulldogs, and WSNS Academy are also expected to make a strong push for the championship.

North Texas Regional

Regional play continues this weekend as teams in the 14u and 17u age divisions will compete for a chance to represent the North Texas region in the Super25 National Championships. Participating 14u teams from Texas and Oklahoma will congregate in Grapevine while their 17u counterparts will meet in Dallas-Fort Worth. The 17u tournament includes 30 deserving teams that will fight for a National Championship berth such as the Dallas Mustangs, Columbia Angels, and the MWC Oklahoma Stars. The D-Bat organization boasts four teams in the regional tournament, all of which have a strong chance to bring home a regional championship.

14u Ohio Valley Regional Championship

Twelve teams in the Ohio Valley region will contend for a single spot in the National Championship in Lexington, Kentucky. Heavyweight organizations such as the Kentucky Prospects and the Kentucky Baseball Club headline a fierce group of competitors. Both teams attended the National Championship last year, but they will have their hands full with teams such as the St. Louis Pirates and the Huntington Hounds who are aiming to punch their own tickets to Fort Myers.

South Super Qualifier

A grand total of 78 teams of the 15u and 16u age groups will barrel into College Station, Texas this weekend with the same National Championship goal. From top to bottom, the 15u Super Qualifier features tough competitors. The Dallas Tigers, Columbia Angels, and Team Rawlings are three teams expected to make some noise in the tournament. The 16u Super Qualifier is filled to the brim with talent as well. There will be 43 capable teams in attendance, including the 2014 National Championship Runner-Up, Houston Banditos.

14u Mid-Atlantic Regional

The 14u Mid-Atlantic will be the largest tournament this weekend with a whopping 51 teams. Powerhouse organizations such as the Tri-State Arsenal and the GoWags will be among those taking the field in Vineland, New Jersey. The stakes are high as only one of the 51 teams will earn a berth in the National Championship.

Tag ‘em Super Series

There will be four Tag ‘em Super Series tournaments this weekend. Participating 14u teams will duke it out in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. The 17u teams will take the field in Council Rock, Pennsylvania, while their 15u and 16u counterparts will be just down the road in Bensalem.
