FORT MYERS, Fla. – The speed of two Baseball University players made all the difference Tuesday afternoon as Connor Tootle legged out an infield single in the bottom of the seventh to allow Hunter Jordan to race all the way home from second base with two outs to cap off a 4-3 comeback victory over SWFL Nation in the 2018 PG Super25 15u Florida Super Qualifier.

After three singles in three at-bats heading into a spot to clinch a berth in the 15u Super25 National Championship, Tootle (2021, Clearwater, Fla.) put a high chopper to shortstop in play and narrowly beat the throw across, all while Jordan never stopped as he rounded third and scored the winning run without a throw.

SWFL Nation raced out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as Boe Rodriguez (2022, Cape Coral, Fla.) lined a single to center and moved over to third base on a booming double to the left-center field gap by Jake Gibson (2021, Fort Myers, Fla.).

Andrew Sundean (2021, Lakeland, Fla.) drove home Rodriguez with an RBI groundout to short and Gibson used heads up baserunning as Logan Adams’ shallow fly was caught on the run in shallow right field, but with the fielder’s momentum going away from the infield, it allowed Gibson to score easily.

Adrian Quinones (2021, Cape Coral, Fla.) followed up a two-out double by Sawyer Hawks (2021, Lakeland, Fla.) with an RBI single to right to give SWFL Nation a 3-0 lead for Adams (2021, Arcadia, Fla.) to work with on the mound.

Baseball University managed to put up a run in the home half of the first as Tootle came around to score on an RBI single to center from Andrew Burns (2021, Lutz, Fla.), but as the game wore on, Adams and his opposition on the mound in Burns started stringing zeroes together on the scoreboard.

Harrison Povey (2021, Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.) came on in relief for Baseball U in the fifth inning and tossed a scoreless frame and saw his teammates generate a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning.

After Knox Meier (2021, Tampa, Fla.) hit a double to deep center, Tate Allen brought Meier in to score with an RBI single to center to draw Baseball University to within a run at 3-2. Tootle kept the inning alive with an infield single, setting up Jac Caglianone (2021, Tampa, Fla.) who would tie the game up on an RBI single into right.

SWFL Nation had a chance to go ahead in the seventh after getting a runner to third with two outs, but Povey picked up a critical strikeout to send the game to the bottom of the seventh deadlocked at three.

SWFL Nation reliever Alex Quinovez walked Jordan (2021, Lutz, Fla.) with one out in the seventh and committed a balk that moved Jordan into scoring position, setting up Tootle’s dash to first and Jordan scooting all the way home to lift Baseball U to the PG Super25 15u National Championship that will be held July 6-10 in Sanford, Fla.

Tootle was selected as the MVP of the tournament, with his 4-for-4 performance culminating in a five-game stretch that saw him bat .500 (6-for-12) with four RBI, and he added four stolen bases.

The MV-Pitcher came from the runner-up SWFL Nation as Allen Guerrero (2021, Cape Coral, Fla.) turned in a terrific performance in an earlier morning contest on Tuesday also against Baseball University as the right-hander struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings while surrendering just three hits and not allowing a run.
