Jonathan Vastine (2021, Bartow, Fla.) has been highlighted all week for what he has done at the dish, but it was all about what he did on the mound in the 17U semifinal that has him here in the scout notes once again. Getting the start for eventual co-champ Hit Factory Pro, Vastine would go the distance, tossing seven shutout innings, scattering four hits and one walk while striking out ten. He lived 87-91 mph for the majority of the outing, even bumping it up to 90 mph all the way in the high-leverage seventh inning. The athleticism stands out in a big way in his ability to repeat and hold velocity, but it is the true pitchability and feel to spin what showed as a hammer slider throughout that makes for a very intriguing two-way ability at the highest level.
