Mid-Atlantic Elite Scout Notes: Day 1 - 2

An intriguing look to kickoff the 15u Mid-Atlantic Elite championship, Christopher Cespedes (2024, Haverstraw, N.Y.) came out firing, popping several mid- to upper-80s fastballs, grabbing an 88 during the second batter he faced. An extra-large frame with some present strength in his lower half, the ’24 grad still has room to grow and add additional strength to his frame. A simple operation, Cespedes uses his entire frame to stride down the mound, shortening the distance between he and the batter. Coming from higher three-quarter arm slot, Cespedes’ fastball shows serious life through the zone. Creating natural deception with his long levers and landing more towards the third base side of the mound, Cespedes crossfires and creates an uncomfortable at-bat for hitters. Not having his best command today, Cespedes threw more strikes in the 83-85 mph range. Relying heavily on his fastball during his inning-plus of work, Cespedes showed the ability to overpower hitters, getting swings and misses.

Providing some thump from the cleanup spot, Aiden Pichardo (2023, Clifton, N.J.) started his tournament off with a multi-hit game. Brought home two in the first with an RBI double to the pull side, showing his ability to turn on an inside fastball. In Pichardo’s second at-bat, he would lead off the third with a single back up the middle. With an elevated swing path, Pichardo displayed present hand speed, creating barrel whip through the zone.
