Matt Manley (2023, Huntsville, Ala.) put together a quality Sunday out for Top Gun Black as he went five innings with nine punchouts allowing one hit and two walks in his shutout effort. The junior right-hander topped out at 89 mph with the fastball early on and pitched at 84-86 mph for the most of the next four innings. He broke out a changeup more in the later innings against left-handed hitters in the upper-70s with straight-to-fading actions at times. The curveball was more prevalent throughout the outing in the upper-60s to low-70s with bigger shape moving 11-5 through the zone as he went to the glove side with it more often than not but did flash an ability to land it to the arm side. Well, the velocity wasn’t where it has been in previous outings for the No. 209 ranked player in the class it was good to see him mix in all three pitches and pound the zone with over 60% strikes as he cruised through the afternoon.

John Malone (2023, Fairhope, Ala.) was absolutely lights out for his two innings of work allowing just one bloop hit and punching out five hitters while walking none. The fastball jumped on hitters topping out at 88 mph holding 86-87 mph for his 29 pitches. The curveball was the primary off-speed with projectable traits as he landed it for strikes later in counts throwing it off the fastball in the upper-70s early while taking some off it and showing more shape when in the low- to mid-70s. After a shorter outing Malone will be one to keep an eye on next weekend as he returns for the Deep South Fall Select Championship.
