UBC West Scout Notes: Day 1

Boston Bateman (2024, Camarillo, Calif.) got the ball against a tough Alpha squad and did not back down. The Arizona State features an intimidating 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame. Despite the bigger frame, the left-hander moves well down the mound and repeats the delivery consistently. The fastball sat 90-92 mph with plenty of life through the zone. The offering gets on hitters quickly and has the ability to overwhelm them often. It is easy velocity with plenty more in the tank. A sharp slider at 74-77 mph paired well off the heater. Tight break with quality depth generates whiffs often. The size to go along with the pitch mix makes Bateman an extremely intriguing arm that should only continue to get better.
