Derek Curiel (2024, West Covina, Calif.) has been on the barrel multiple times since he showed up in Hoover a week ago with multiple loud barrels, driving the baseball to all fields. Currently the No. 1 ranked player in the 2024 class, there has been very little argument to suggest otherwise here this week. Curiel showed up a day early and joined the 17U team where he picked up a double and a home run before he even started his tournament. On Friday, the LSU commit was back to work with the stick as he once again drove a ball in the opposite field turning it into a triple as he showed off the 6.5 speed. On top of his extra-base hits, Curiel has also showcased his plate discipline with four walks to only one strikeout. Once on the bases he has been able to get himself into scoring position with four stolen bases, providing the rest of his lineup with more scoring opportunities.
