Frame/Delivery/Arm Action

Yoder features an enticing frame with plenty to dream on. The right-hander stands at 6-foot-5, 230-pounds with a high-waisted frame and lanky limbs. There is a mix of both current strength and plenty of room to add. The frame projects well as a starter and the durability should only continue to develop as more strength is added. The right-hander utilizes a semi-windup delivery with a moderate left into drop and drive mechanics. It is a fairly simple operation that stays under control down the mound. Yoder rides the backside and gets into the lower half well, generating easy power with fairly little effort. A longer arm action is shown out of glove separation into a high three-quarters slot. The arm shows a clean spiral with consistent timing into foot strike. Quality hip-shoulder separation gets created at landing into a clean release. The efficient operation utilizes Yoder’s strength well and allows for easy power stuff.

Arsenal/Pitch Mix

The fastball is the pitch that carries the profile at the moment. Yoder consistently sits in the mid-90’s with the offering and has been up to 98 mph. The pitch jumps out of the hand and is really efficient at the top of the zone. There can be some cut action at times, although carry through the zone is what generates whiffs. As of now, the command and velocity of the heater impress early in starts, but will begin to slip in the later innings. Continuing to show the ability to hold velocity and continue to throw strikes deep into games will be key for Yoder as a starter going forward. Off the fastball, Yoder flashes a potential above-average curveball. The offering sits in the low-80’s and shows quality depth when spun well. Late bite on the offering shows the ability to generate whiffs and can tunnel well off the heater. Along with the curveball, Yoder has continued to develop a slider that sits 85-87 mph. The pitch still has room to develop, but continues to make strides as another usable offering. Yoder rounds his repertoire with a changeup at 83-86 mph. The right-hander does not use the offering very often and the pitch will need continued refinement.

Abilities/Traits To Like

The calling card for Yoder is obviously the fastball. The heater only continues to grow in velocity. It was one of the best fastball on the circuit when it was at its best and was the hardest thrown fastball at Jupiter this year. The pitch can obviously overwhelm hitters and generate whiffs at a high rate. It is the carrying pitch and gives the profile a high ceiling. Along with the fastball, Yoder’s size is extremely enticing and makes the profile one to watch. The frame gives Yoder starter potential and there is still plenty of projection remaining. Yoder obvious upside that should draw plenty of draft interest this spring.

“The Buzz”

After a strong campaign in 2023, Yoder showed massive strides this year in 2024. It started in the spring, where the right-hander showed flashes of dominance and that carried over to the summer, including the 17u WWBA National Championship. During that start, Yoder struck out eight hitters over seven shutout innings and showed a significant velocity jump with the fastball. That velocity only continued to rise throughout the circuit and he capped off a strong year with a stellar showing down in Jupiter, where the fastball topped out at 98 mph. The rise this year has been impressive and it would not be surprising if Yoder continues to rise up boards this spring if the stuff continues to develop.

Summation

Yoder has all the potential to be a strong draft name next summer. The right-hander has shown dominant stuff already and still has plenty of room to continue to develop. If he can give organizations confidence in his ability to start long term this spring, there is no telling how high Yoder could rise up boards. Whether he ends up being selected or winds up on campus in Durham, the right-hander will be a fun name to follow through this draft circuit.
