Frame/Delivery/Arm Action

Foutch possesses a tall, large build with long arms and a sturdy lower half. The frame is well proportioned with physicality throughout. The are likely minimal future strength gains, but the frame has plenty of strength present. Foutch works exclusively out of the stretch on the mound. He comes set with his feet slightly open before gathering on the backside well with a moderate leg kick. The delivery is a tall and fall operation down the mound, but still generates easy power from the lower half and into the arm swing. It is not an overly long stride, allowing Foutch to maintain body control and posture throughout the delivery. A medium arm stroke shows quality arm speed into a slightly higher 3/4 slot. Foutch can create good extension toward the plate, allowing the ball to jump on hitters. The simple, efficient operation shows very little effort and very few wasted movements.

Arsenal/Pitch Mix

Foutch attacks hitters with a loud three-pitch mix. The righthander can generate some of the easiest velocity in college baseball. The heater sits 96-98 mph and can get up to 101 mph at times. The velocity can obviously overwhelm hitters, although Foutch is still refining the shape of the pitch as it can get hit hard when in the zone. As for secondary offerings, Foutch shows two potential plus offerings. A nasty splitter sits in the upper-80’s and plays extremely well off of the fastball. Heavy tumbling action can generate plenty of swing and misses and gets uncomfortable whiffs often. The pitch has the potential to be a 70-grade offering when it is all said and done. Foutch also shows a quality, low-90’s cutter with late bite. The pitch started as a slider but has converted more to a cutter now and is a real swing and miss threat. The two secondary offerings give Foutch two weapons that work well against both right-handed and left-handed hitters.

Abilities/Traits To Like

When he is at his best, Foutch possesses some of the best stuff out of any pen in the country. The fastball velocity is impressive and an obvious attention grabber. Not only the ability to reach triple digits, but the ability to do so with such ease. Reaching triple digits would be the best offering for most people, but for Foutch it is probably his third best offering. The cutter has made great strides and could be a plus pitch and the splitter is a legit weapon that may be one of the highest graded pitches in the entire class. The stuff profiles extremely well in the backend of a bullpen and could quick accelerate through a system on the way to the big leagues.

“The Buzz”

Foutch came out of high school as one of the top arms in the state of Colorado. After a freshman campaign that featured mixed results, the right-hander was absolutely dominant last spring. Foutch gave up just two earned runs all year, resulting in a minuscule 0.81 ERA. Foutch will once again be a key piece out of the Arkansas bullpen this year and will get a chance to show his ability to fill valuable innings late in games. The performance history and loud stuff make for a very intriguing profile that will draw plenty of eyes leading up to the draft this summer.

Summation

Foutch has a chance to be the first reliever off the board next summer if he has anywhere near the type of year he had last year. He checks almost all the boxes you look for in a backend reliever profile. He has the velocity to compete against big league hitters and he has plenty of swing and miss ability with all three pitches. He has missed some time over his first two years at Arkansas and will need to answer some durability questions. Continuing to refine the fastball command and overall strike throwing consistency will also be things teams look for this spring. Foutch has the stuff to be a dominant reliever with a potential quick ascension to the big leagues.
