2003 Western Underclass Showcase
Dykstra is a loose, very projectable athlete who was one of the best prospects at the West Undergraduate Showcase. He’s had plenty of success in the high school and junior ranks with his bat but we think his future is on the mound. Our first impression of him came when he threw 87 mph across the infield from first base during drills with a powerful, leveraged arm stroke. Dykstra was even better on the mound, touching 90 mph with a 71 mph curveball that had sharp, tight spin and good downer bite to it. His change up and command were also very advanced for his age. This is easily the type of prospect pitcher that you can see making large, significant improvement as he adds strength to his lanky 6-4, 185 lb frame. Yes, he's a big threat with the bat, but even better on the hill. Allan is an outstanding student also.
