Jayson Hernandez is a 2006 catcher from Jackson, NJ with a medium build that shows strength at 5-10, 184 lbs. Like many shorter catchers, Hernandez has very quick actions on defense, especially on his transfers and releases. He has very good arm strength at 78 mph and had a best pop time of 1.82, with most of his pop times in that area. He shifts well behind the plate and isn't afraid to block the ball. Offensively, Hernandez hits from a narrow stance with good balance through the ball and a lofted swing plane. He does a good job keeping his hands back on breaking balls and using his quick hands. Hernandez tends to hit most balls in the air but he has the strength and bat speed to drive the ball. He is a good student who has signed with Winthrop.
