Antonio Velez is a 2016 LHP/1B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Brandon, FL who attends Brandon HS. Medium athletic build, some present strength with more to come. Fast paced two-part delivery with a pause at the top, high 3/4's arm slot, repeats mechanics well. Fastball topped out at 89 mph, good downhill plane to the plate and stays on top of the pitch well, occasional arm side running life, shows the ability to spot his fastball to both sides of the plate. Nice curveball with hard spin and a tight 1/7 bite and shape, commands the curveball well and will get strikeouts with the pitch. Developing change up, has nice fade but not much present velocity separation. Good athlete who should continue to improve. Verbal commitment to South Florida.
