Chris Demgen is a 2017 OF/3B/RHP with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Carlsbad, CA who attends Cathedral Catholic HS. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build and present strength. Ran a 6.97 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder with aggressive actions while closing to the baseball. Show clean glove actions while working through baseball with smooth glove to hand exchanges. Releases with a compact arm action that generating some on line carry to the bag, topped at 85 mph. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth, athletic footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean glove and transition while getting the ball out quickly. Smooth arm stroke at release that created accurate throws to the bag, topped at 80 mph. Right handed hitter with a spread, balanced stance. Hands launch to contact on a compact path that generated and uphill swing plane through extension. Swings with intent to drive the ball in the air. Primarily showed a mid-field to pull side approach creating occasional rising line drives. Flashed the ability to turn the barrel to contact creating bat speed and loud contact to the pull side gap. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. Creates slight curl at balance point with a waist high leg kick. Hides the baseball well from a three-quarters arm slot that produced some cross body action at release. Fastball have good life through the zone with occasional running action and heaviness to the plate, topped at 83 mph. Curveball had 9/5 shape with good depth and some sweep. Offering stays tight throughout with late breaking action to glove side. Flashed a changeup with some fading action and depth when located down in the zone. Maintained arm speed well matching fastball offering. Primarily pitched of fastball early but showed the ability to keep hitters off balance with curveball and changeup. Consistently challenged the strike zone and forcing contact. Outstanding student as well.
