Tate Van Poppel is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-0 190 lb. frame from Bartonville, TX who attends Argyle HS. Long limbed athletic build with good strength throughout, square shoulders and a strong lower half. Full hands over head delivery with a slight pause at the top of the rubber, high 3/4's to over the top arm slot, works downhill and gets the ball to the bottom of the zone well. Fastball topped out at 82 mph, mostly straight. Big downer curveball has eye changing depth and can be thrown more often. Rare change up showed promise as well. Has the pitches to mix more often and keep hitters off balance. Right handed hitter, closed from side with a rotational swing and some strength driven bat speed when he gets his arms extended, can drive the ball to the middle and opposite fields. 7.50 runner, showed solid footwork and athleticism at first base. Good student.
