Joshua Gruenberg is a 2019 OF/LHP with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Andover, MA who attends Andover High School. Medium, athletic build with a loose and lean, highly projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Excellent runner, posted a 6.70 60-yard and uses that speed both on the bases and in the outfield. Center field profile defensively, moves well on feet with a quick first step and sound range to either side, quick transfer and gets on top of throws well, solid carry and arm strength on throws out of hand with accuracy to intended base. Also pitched, gets tall on backside and drives well towards the plate, sound tempo and balance to delivery and repeats it well. Long and clean arm action through the back, gets to a three-quarters arm slot and works down in the zone with fastball, topping out at 79 mph with tough angle on lefthanded hitters, able to cut ball in on righthanders. Maintains velocity and works either side of the plate. Can pitch backwards and has a feel for curveball, able to get swings-and-misses with 1-7 shaped pitch at 64 mph. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and does nice job of getting closed while striding into contact with lower half. Short path to the ball with a compact swing path, natural feel for the barrel with quickness to hands, creates nice bat speed through the zone. Produces line drive contact, sound launch angle at point of contact, hands work in swing and repeats it well. Nice tools all around to project upon. Very good student. Named to Northeast Underclass Top Prospect List.
