2004 National Showcase
Brett Summers is a tall thin extremely projectable 6'6/185 RHP from Dyer, IN. He is a basketball player who is still a bit raw in his pitching mechanics but has national top prospect tools. He threw 89 mph from a high ¾’s release point that generates very good leverage and he has a solid change up/curveball combination. He throws with minimal effort, a good down hill plane, excellent arm speed and he maintained his velocity out of the stretch. This kid projects off the charts and our guess is he will become a mid 90s or maybe even higher guy in the near future. He throws a 12-6 75 mph CB and his changeup is a potential MLB out pitch. At this time Summers is the biggest sleeper from this showcase at Tropicana Field. He shouldn't be a sleeper for long. He is a top 20 college program prospect and he could become a premium draft pick by next June. Brett is a good student.
