2017 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Landon Vander Leest is a 2018 3B/RHP, 1B, OF with a 6-2 202 lb. frame from Pella, IA who attends Pella. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Projects for additional strength with continued maturity. Ran a 6.75 sixty-yard dash. Primary third baseman with smooth, fundamental footwork while working through the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling out front and working through exchange. Flashed very athletic actions while ranging to glove side with the ability to release from multiple arm slot. Primarily released from a long three-quarters slot creating on line carry to the bag, topped at 84 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and toe tap trigger. Created good shift into contact utilizing linear lower half actions. Hands launch on a loose, extended path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Flashed some leverage at contact when turning the barrel and working to pull side. Ball jumps off barrel well when hands were extended at contact. Also pitched showing a small side step delivery. Slight wrist wrap at take back prior to releasing from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball showed solid downward angle through the zone in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Changed speeds well with a curveball that had proper shape and a changeup that flashed occasional fade. Lived down in the strike zone with good command to arm side that produced weak contact.
