2019 Northwest Prospect Showcase
Malcolm Williams is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Lake Oswego, OR who attends Lake Oswego HS. Medium frame with an athletic build and wiry strength. Frame projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary shortstop with athletic footwork while ranging to and rounding the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling and worked through exchange quickly. Released from a lower three-quarters arm slot producing accurate, on line carry to the bag at 81 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance and simple front side trigger. Created some line shift into contact with lower half. Simple, direct hand path to baseball with a naturally leveraged barrel plane through extension. Flashed solid feel for the barrel with bat speed. Primarily looked to work to the middle of the field, but flashed the ability to turn the barrel and work to pull side as well. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. Simple leg lift and stayed balanced at gather. Worked in line to the plate with front side. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot generating occasional cut to glove side in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 mph. Slider flashed tight spin out of hand with late tilt to glove side in the low 70's. Consistently looked to locate within the zone and challenge hitters. Good student.
