Derek DeSanto is a 2024 RHP/C/UT with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Rensselaer, NY who attends Doane Stuart. Recorded a 7.83 second sixty-yard dash time. Long, lean frame with square shoulders and plenty of room and time to fill out. Primary right-handed pitcher; full windup delivery, simple side-step rocker into a chest high leg lift, slight drop and drive lower half mechanics. Incorporates good rhythm and tempo throughout, attacks hitters with three-pitch mix effectively from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball worked in the mid-to-upper 70s for the duration of his outing, topping out at 78 mph in this look with good command to both sides of the plate. Mixed in two different breaking balls with varying shapes and movements to them. Short, more horizontal version is best at present with ability to miss barrels more frequently. Will continue to improve with further advancements to his repertoire and additional velocity. Secondary infielder with anticipatory actions throughout the fielding process, developing arm strength and accuracy across the diamond. Displayed the ability to range laterally well to either side, while fielding cleanly out in front to work into a slightly uphill release. Recorded online, accurate throws up to 75 mph during drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from a wider, slightly open stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and leg lift trigger. Incorporates Middle-of-the field approach with short and direct swing path, quickness to his hands and consistent bat-to-ball skills. Will continue to improve with minor refinements to his swing mechanics and additional strength. Excellent Student.
