Derek Hernandez is a 2022 MIF/RHP/OF with a 5-8 130 lb. frame from Corpus Christi, TX who attends Corpus Christi Moody HS. Slender build with maturity yet to come, 7.19 runner who attacks the ball and fields cleanly in the infield. Displays some quick twitch actions with lateral range, as well as the ability to charge the ball well, arm will improve with added strength. Shows a power set up in the box with a high back elbow and a degree of wrap in the bat. Looks to pull at the plate, has quick hands and a flat barrel path through the zone which generates consistently solid contact. Also pitches, shows a simplified and easy delivery that uses the lower half with controlled hip turn while maintaining online direction to the plate. Delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot and reaches good extension out in front with a fastball that topped at 74 mph while showing slight arm side run and sinking action. Curveball has 10/4 shape and shows potential to develop into an out pitch with physical maturity.
