Tayler Montiel is a 2021 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Brentwood, TN who attends Brentwood Academy. Medium frame with long limbs and a lean build. Frame projects to support additional size and strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Lands in line with the plate and carries momentum through finish well. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a low three-quarters arm slot. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly with slight running action back to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Good feel for fastball offering with the ability to create swings and misses when elevating. Curveball had 1/7 shape with solid spin and good depth in the low 70's. Maintained arm speed well with a changeup that generated some sink in the upper 60's. Consistently attacked the strike zone and continuously changed speeds effectively keeping hitters off balance. Also worked out defensively from the outfield displaying smooth paced footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels baseball out front with fundamentally sound two handed actions. Loose exchanges and created accurate carry to the bag at 83 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an even, balanced stance and simple leg lift trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Loose, extended path to contact with a level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Primarily worked to the middle of the field but flashed the barrel control to work to all fields as well. Excellent student.
