Zachary Mallia is a 2020 RHP/IF with a 6-3 191 lb. frame from Crozet, VA who attends Western Albemarle HS. Tall frame with long limbs and beginnings of strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher who worked exclusively from the stretch. High leg lift delivery and stays balanced on back side at gather. Works to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Deep arm circle and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Tends to land at a slightly closed position with front side but carries momentum towards target. Fastball flashed occasional running action to arm side with solid downhill plane in the low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Curveball showed 11/5 shape with shorter, late bit when maintaining arm speed through extension. Also flashed a changeup in the mid 70's. Looked to work to the bottom half of the zone while displaying developing feel for the edges of the plate. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing compact strides while moving to and surrounding the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange fluidly. Released from multiple arm slots generating on line carry across the infield at 83 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a balanced, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Worked to contact on a simple, repeatable path. Created slight barrel lift through the zone that generated some carry when squared. Primarily worked to the middle of the field between the gaps flashing some strength to the opposite field gap. Good student as well.
