Dustin Hobbs is a 2008 RHP/3B/SS with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Las Vegas NV, who attends Arbor View HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event on his strengths as a two-way player, though he certainly would have been considered as a pitcher alone. Hobbs may have been the single best performer on the mound, racking up 7 strikeouts in 3 innings and allowing 0 hits. He has a strong, athletic build with some room yet to naturally fill out. On the mound he has a loose, quick, long arm action that works easily. His delivery has some deception and makes his fastball (83-86 mph) seem a bit better. His fastball is not only sneaky, but has some heaviness to it and just jumps on hitters with movement. His curveball (71-72 mph) has plus spin and good bite. Hobbs throws quality strikes and attacks hitters, going about his business like an ace. Offensively he showed well too. His a good hitter, with strong hands and a flat swing. Hobbs showed excellent plate coverage and banged the ball hard to all fields. He keeps his barrel in the zone for a long time and the power will come. Defensively he is solid too, at 3rd base. He stays low through the ball and has a good arm. Hobbs is a very good student and high level D1 prospect. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he will be getting pro interest in the spring of '08.
