2007 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Bryan Bass is a 2009 MIF with a 5'8'', 155 lb. frame from Durham, NC who attends Northern Durham HS. He has a compact build with some present strength and has tightly wound, quick athletic actions. Bass is a very good defensive middle infielder. He looked smoother and more natural at second base but has the arm strength and actions to play shortstop as well. At second base, Bass moves through the ball very well, is light on his feet and stays very balanced. His release is quick and he makes crisp, accurate throws. He reminds us a bit of Tyler Hanover from the 2008 class. Offensively, Bass is a left handed hitter with a busy, anxious load. He swings hard at the ball and has good bat speed and some lift in his swing. His load and busy hands left his timing off in games and the lift in his swing looks like it might put the ball in the air more than a player like Bass could benefit from. The aggressiveness and bat speed are there for Bass to become a good hitter with some adjustments. He is a 6.93 runner, so his speed plays at the next level as well. Bass is a solid all round prospect who knows how to play and plays hard. He is a good student. Bass was named to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
