Austin Wood is a 2008 RHP with a 6'4'', 205 lb. frame from Niceville, Fl who attends Niceville HS. He has a pro profile projectable pitcher's build with some present strength. Wood dominated hitters during his two innings of work and recorded all six outs by strikeouts. His fastball was 90-92 mph from an overhand release point and good downhill angle. Wood showed the ability to throw inside and up with his fastball and get hitters to swing, then put them away with a big breaking 80 mph slider. Wood's delivery has some funk at release that looks like it might be deceptive to hitters as they had consistently poor swings. It was one of the best performances of the National Showcase. Wood is a very good student off the field.
