KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Mya January is a 5'5, class of 2024, RHP/SS from Spring Hill, KS who attends Spring Hill HS. Mya is a talented younger player with an emerging ability that, should she continue to work at her game, will allow her the opportunity to play at the next level. She ran a 3.25 20-yard dash with a 1.11 5-yard split. A primary RHP, Mya has a big operation that she repeats well. Her fastball is a big power pitch, that, for a HS sophomore, is advanced in/with velocity. She pounds the zone with the FB. Her flip change-up plays well off her FB. Although she slows her arm speed just a tick, she has a solid feel for the CH. Screwball is a tight spinning pitch that has hard boring action to the arm side edge. SC maybe her best pitch right now. Has to be a tough pitch for RHH to handle. Curveball, which plays well off the dominant SC, shows enough break to the glove side corner to be affective. Mya's mix is sound right now and with continued refinement, will open a lot of doors for her at the next level. As good as Mya is in the circle, she may be more college ready - right now - on the infield dirt. Her quicker feet allow her to position with ease. She plays through the fielding action with athletic rhythm and her sure, soft glove plays very well. She has a routine transition and her powerful 56-mph arm produces firm throws that are routinely accurate. Solid IF upside potential. At the plate, Mya gets it. She has a balanced and linear stance at the ready. She doesn't get cheated....ever. Pretty easy bat that shows off her obvious strength. Big bat speed. Creates torque to and through the path and impacts the ball with loud force. Big, emerging power that is certain to only get better. A big bat that will produce runs now and for a long time. Certain college potential. There is little Mya can't do on the field. She is noticeably talented. Now it is just a matter of not being complacent or satisfied. A dedication to improving her already sound skill set, will open up a world of possibilities for Mya. High ceiling! Bright future!
