James Poletes is a 2027 SS/RHP, 2B, 3B, MIF, IF, OF, UT with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Okemos, MI, who attends Okemos. A higher-waisted build with a medium frame. Some length throughout with room to keep filling out. Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop who shuffles to the ball, moving low to the ground. Got it done with the backhand, funneling into throws that had some whip across the diamond. Had some quickness to the arm, throwing 79 mph across, with good accuracy. He had a feel for the angles working to the ball. Also worked out as an outfielder, throwing 81 mph from the outfield during his round. He attacked the ball with some energy and worked through it well, carrying some momentum. He fields it off to the side and funnels it into throws, shuffling to release. Longer arm path with some quickness to it. A right-handed hitter with a squatted stance, wider base, and closed shoulders. He has tighter hands with a simple and compact swing. He worked to the opposite field during his round of BP throws with some bat speed. Showed some good impacts when he gets to the ball out in front. He took to the mound as a right-handed pitcher who worked from the wind-up, with a clean and simple delivery, showing controlled actions. He had a leg lift just above the belt with some rotation in the upper half. He side-stepped into his leg lift and worked into a lower three-quarters release. The fastball was up to 79 mph with some riding life to it. He showed a changeup to right-handed hitters early on, with some depth to it, killing spin. He also showed a curveball with an 11/5 shape to it. Landed them all in the zone. Missed a few bats up with the fastball. Also fielded his position well on a comebacker. Excellent student.
