Hugeley is a very physically strong 6-0, 190 lb catcher from Florida who we’ve seen frequently in the past. He is a good defensive catcher with pro level arm strength behind the plate at 81 mph. Hugeley’s release is still a bit long but he was under 2.00 on his pop times. Hugeley works hard defensively and isn’t afraid to put his body in front of balls. Offensively, Hugeley has big time power potential. He hits with low hands and takes an aggressive full swing at pitches, especially on the inside half of the plate. He had an excellent batting practice at the showcase and hit well in the games as well. Hugeley likely won’t be a high average hitter at the next level but he will drive pitcher’s mistakes hard and be a run producer with power. Hugeley also threw an inning and showed impressive arm strength, touching 88 mph with his fastball and throwing a 70-74 mph curveball with tight spin and sharp bite. Hugeley’s mechanics were on the raw side and he had trouble getting the ball down in the zone but he has potential from the mound as well.
