2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Ellis Bowen is a wiry 5'10" athlete from Canada who played very well at the Midwest Showcase. He’s a member of the 2004 class, but is taking his 5th year of high school classes and will have full college eligibility next year. Bowen is making the transition from middle infield to outfield now. His sub 7.00 speed and good quickness will help him in the outfield. His routes to the ball are on the raw side now, but should improve and Bowen showed college level arm strength during workouts. Bowen is a switch hitter, but batted right handed in games. From the right side, Bowen shows surprising pop in his bat. He lined a number of extra base hits during game competition and ran the bases very aggressively at all times. In fact, Bowen is aggressive in all areas of the game. He’s an early in the count hitter who swings hard at everything and looks to pull the ball hard. A more patient approach and acknowledgment of the right side of the field might make Bowen a better rounded offensive player, but it’s probably against his athletic personality.
