2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Andrew Beatty is a 5'11" left handed pitcher with excellent pitchability and some pretty good stuff. He isn’t going to be a 90 mph type of guy, but Beatty should be a very successful DI college pitcher and might get a chance to pitch higher than that. He pitched 4 innings in Cedar Rapids, retiring the last 10 hitters in order and generally cruising easily through the opponent’s lineup. Beatty’s fastball was 83-85 mph with good late tailing action. He showed lots of confidence in his mid 70’s change up, using it at all points in the count and getting some strikeouts with it. Beatty’s curveball was 67-70 and while it was his third pitch this day, it would be a go to pitch for many pitchers; it was sharp and deep at times. Beatty works quickly, repeats his delivery and hits his spots with purpose. We’re pretty sure all the better college programs in the Midwest know about Beatty and if they don’t, it’s probably too late. Andrew is a very good student.
