2004 National Open Top Prospect Showcase
Greg Doonan is a big and strong 6'5", 220 lb. right handed pitcher from Wallingford, Connecticut, who shows all the signs of a young pitcher from the Northeast who is going to continue to improve. Doonan throws from a good on-line delivery with some back side collapse that sacrifices a bit of leverage for some added power from his strong lower half. He repeats his delivery and his ¾ release point well. His arm works well out front after he gets through some back side wrap. Doonan has three pitches that he uses in a good mix. His fastball was 81-84 mph with good boring action, and it’s easy to project future velocity gains. Doonan’s curveball was 69-71 mph with good spin and an effective 11/5 break. His change up showed good polish and deception as well at 72-74 mph. Florida college coaches should note that Doonan’s older sister plays softball at a Florida college as well. He's very interesting and Greg is a good student.
