2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Lockwood is a physically strong and mature 6-0, 200 lb left handed pitcher/first baseman from Tennessee. He also has plenty of athletic ability to play a corner outfield spot as well. Scouts and coaches will be divided on what Lockwood’s best primary role is; we like him as a hitter at the moment but aren’t going to discount his pitching ability at all. On the mound, Lockwood threw 83-86 mph from a high ¾’s release point. His arm works very well but he doesn’t get much help from his strong lower half. Lockwood has always shown us top level pitchability at team events. He mixes his pitches well, changes speeds and locations. His fastball had plus, plus life this outing and he had similar action on a 78 mph change up. Lockwood’s curveball is 68 mph and is probably his third best pitch right now. Lockwood’s raw strength really comes into play when he hits. He can get a little rotational at times but generates very good bat speed with an aggressive swing that has plenty of loft in it. Lockwood showed the ability to hit the ball long and far to all fields and he also had some polish and patience to his approach. Lockwood is a good student.
