Joey Castleman is a 2006 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Garland, TX with a thick strong body at 6-2, 200 lbs. He throws from a low 3/4's arm slot with an aggressive delivery and pitching style. Castleman attacks hitters with a fastball/slider combination and when he's throwing strikes he's very hard to hit. He does a good job hiding the ball behind a high leg kick and doesn't let the hitter see much of the ball or his arm until he's coming to the plateCastleman's fastball topped out at 89 mph in Atlanta with some tailing action and he has always done a good job maintaining his velocity. He has a sharp slider at 78 mph that he likes throwing at the hitters front shoulder. Castleman also mixed in a couple of 75 mph change ups that showed good sink. He knows how to mix his pitches and get hitters to swing and miss. We've often seen Castleman pitching out of the bullpen in WWBA events and his FB/SL combination can make him immediately effective at the college level in this role. Castleman is also a third baseman with a strong throwing arm and power potential. The ball jumps off his bat hard. Castleman is an excellent student off the field.
