2004 Southeast Underclass Showcase
Jordan Bates is a 5'10" outfielder from Mechanicsville, Virginia, who was the top all around defensive outfielder at the SE Underclass Showcase. Bates’ 7.27 speed isn’t special, but he gets excellent jumps on the ball and runs precise routes. He has a very strong and accurate throwing arm, and shows that he’s been taught and learned the fundamentals by staying behind the ball on his throws and using an advanced crow hop to get his body in position. At the plate, Bates hits from an open and wide stance with no stride, and an upper body coil to get momentum into the ball. He showed some hand strength, and did a good job of staying inside the ball and driving it hard to right centerfield a couple of times. Bates obviously has a lot of baseball aptitude, and has some physical ability to back it up. He’s likely to be an overachiever with that approach.
