2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Josh Brandt is a 2005, barrel chested, 6'1" right handed pitcher from Minnesota. He has some of the most unusual pitching mechanics that you will ever see, but did a good job of repeating his delivery and throwing strikes with his fastball. Brandt’s delivery is very slow paced and he has a couple of very distinct, unrelated movements with his lead leg and his upper body. These probably add deception to the hitter, but the one thing he could do to improve his raw stuff is better use of his front side out front. His release point is high 3/4's to overhand. Brandt’s fastball was mostly 81 mph and he threw this pitch most of the time. His curveball was 56-59 mph and he also threw a 62 mph change up. Offensively he showed good bat speed from a wide stance with a no load approach. He has strength in his swing, and hit some balls very hard. Brandt has a short bat path and a tight, rotational spin to his swing. Brandt is also a good student.
