Justin Carpenter is a 2007 OF/RHP with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Fayetteville GA, who attends Whitewater HS. He has an angular athletic body with excellent projection and strength potential. Carpenter shows prospect tools in all five tool areas and is a top level pitching prospect as well. He ran the 60 in 7.15 and threw a strong 87 mph from the outfield during drills. His running speed is probably his least tool at present but his outfield actions are smooth and balanced and he gets rid of the ball very quickly for an outfielder with that kind of arm strength. Carpenter is a left handed hitter with a very easy, balanced approach at the plate. He generates good bat speed with little effort and gets very good extension through the ball. When Carpenter gets stronger it's easy to see him developing serious power. For now he's a line drive hitter to all fields who probably racks up more than his share of doubles and triples. On the mound, Carpenter has very easy, fluid pitching mechanics, just like his swing mechanics. His fastball was 85-87 mph and he threw a nice 75 mph curveball as a breaking ball. He showed an advanced idea of how to pitch and plus command potential. Carpenter doesn't show a plus present tool in any one area but he's as balanced across the board as you will see and does things with little effort. He's a very good prospect with a high ceiling and a national level follow. Carpenter is also an outstanding student.
