2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
Lorenzo Douglas is a 2005 pitcher from Sachse, TX. He has a slender 6'0" frame with square shoulders and very long arms for his size. He has a high leg kick in his delivery, and an even higher front side coming through with his arm, but Douglas is well coordinated and his arm comes through quick and smooth with very good extension out front. We’ve seen Douglas at 90-91 mph in the past, and he didn’t quite get there from the mound (although he did throw 91 from the outfield in drills), pitching consistently at 88 mph and touching 89. Douglas gets good tailing action on his fastball and uses it aggressively early in counts. Douglas’ 71 mph curveball has fair spin and bite and he flashed a decent change up, but Douglas looked to be primarily a fastball pitcher. Douglas had a very good showcase as a position player, and surprised us with his athleticism. In addition to his above average big league arm strength from the outfield, Douglas showed very good range and instincts defensively and he can run. He also gets the same type of extension on his swing that he gets throwing the ball and showed nice power and bat speed.
