2007 National Showcase
Matt Marquis is a 2008 OF/3B with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Annandale, NJ who attends Immaculata HS. He has a extra strong, tightly wound athletic build and has excellent core strength. Marquis played with some type of muscle pull in his leg during the National and while it sometimes looked like he favored it, it didn't keep him from showing his tools, especially with the bat. Marquis has top level bat speed and a calm and simple approach at the plate. He gets to his front side quickly and uses his superior hand strength to drive the ball hard. He squared up on everything and the ball was exploding off his bat. Marquis has a level swing right now with little loft and is a doubles machine but the power could come on in the future. Marquis is a fluid outfielder with very good instincts to the ball and has a cannon arm that he isn't afraid to show off. Marquis' tools, build and approach to the game are very similar to Aaron Rowand of the Phillies. He is a good student who has a verbal commitment to Vanderbilt.
