Michael Chiarelli is a 2006 catcher/right handed pitcher from Cascade HS in Everett, WA, with a 5'11'', 170 lb. frame. Defensively he has a strong arm behind the plate with good accuracy. Chiarelli has good transfers and quick feet that help produce pop times below 2.00. He handles pitchers well with good hands. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a quick bat. Chiarelli stays back well and is a line drive hitter with gap to gap power. He is short to the ball and stays balanced through his swing. On the mound he has smooth mechanics with a good delivery. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with good arm speed and a short arm circle on the backside. His hand is close to his head on his release as many catchers do on the hill. His fastball topped out at 81 mph with some arm side life, and he mixed in a 74 mph curveball with depth. Chiarelli is a solid all-around player who plays hard, and is a very good student as well.
