2006 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase
Michael Olszyk is a 2008 C/P/1B with a 6'5'', 230 lb. frame from Hamden, CT who attends Hill Regional Career Magnet HS. Michael is a big strong kid that showed solid two-way potential at the showcase. He has a relaxed approach at the plate with good bat speed and the ability to drive the ball to any part of the park. His power should project well at the next level. At first base Michael is light on his feet and showed good actions at first base. He has good footwork behind the plate with solid arm strength. Michael might project better at first base in the long run with his size. On the mound Michael throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action that produces a very heavy fastball. He is a high effort pitcher that comes inside very well and he shows the making of a solid split-finger. Michael is a player that should attract attention of many mid to high-level college programs.
