2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
LHP Mike Jacobson: We’ve seen Jacobson, a senior southpaw from Wisconsin, pitch many times at events and during the Spring League. Last fall he pitched well in Jupiter and was up to 86 mph, good velocity for a lefty. We haven’t seen that kind of speed from him this Spring, yet, but Jacobson threw well at the Showcase. He was consistently 82-83 mph with his fastball and was turning over a 2-seamer at 79 with good tailing action that was an effective different look. Jacobson’s curveball is mostly in the upper 60’s and his delivery makes this a deceptive pitch. Jacobson has a stiff, short arm action that effectively hides the ball from hitters and you don’t see his arm stroke until late. When he stays down in the zone and is mixing up his pitches, Jacobson can be very very effective.
