2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Davis is a 6-2, 220 lb switch hitting catcher from New Jersey with very good overall strength. He has some upper body stiffness but is flexible in his lower half. Davis both caught and played first base at the showcase and shows promise at both positions. He showed 71 mph arm strength catching with a best pop time of 2.03. The whole thing with Davis defensively is upper body vs. lower body. His flexibility and lower body quickness enable him to move well behind the plate and get in position to throw quickly. It also enables him to show some range at first base and stretch for throws with impressive agility. Where he will have to improve at both positions is with his hands and becoming less rotational with his upper body. At the plate, Davis showed impressive power potential, especially from the left side. He has good bat speed from a rotational swing from both sides and the ball comes off his bat well. Davis has some more lift in his swing left handed and lofted a few against live pitching that got everyone's attention. He had no problem handing the wood bat and getting the bat head to the ball. Davis has an infecteous personality on the field and really loves to play. Good follow for his offensive potential and versatility.
