Paul McClay -- McClay is a junior outfielder/pitcher from Florida with a wide, angular build that’s going to fill out as he gets older. McClay looks like he’s going to be a very good hitter. He hits from a wide stance with a simple, quick swing that has some loft to it. McClay stung the ball in batting practice and it’s only a matter of time and strength until he starts knocking the ball off the walls consistently. McClay also threw 4 innings for us and showed some advanced skills. He has a poised and balanced approach on the mound and appears in complete control of himself and his pitches. McClay threw steady at 80-81 mph the entire time and could gain some more velocity right away with more lower half involvement. His 68 mph curveball and 73 mph change were good pitches and in the strike zone the entire time. If he gains some strength and velocity, McClay will be able to get hitters out at the next level. His athletic ability should keep him in the outfield at the next level. McClay is an outstanding student as well.
