Rob Whitley is a 2006 right handed pitcher from George Washington HS in Danville, VA, with a medium 5'11", 175 lb. frame. He has a very long arm action with a high 3/4 to overhand release point and a very, very quick arm. He works through a high leg kick with good balance and leverage with good extension at his release point. Whitley's fastball topped out at 90 in Atlanta with slight arm side life. His best pitch is a 69 mph curveball that has true 12/6 downer break and very good sharpness and depth. When he's staying on top of his curveball and throwing it near the strike zone, Whitley is very hard to hit. He likes throwing inside to right handed hitters, which makes him even harder to hit when he's in rhythm. Whitley also threw a couple of 79 mph change ups that can be a good pitch for him in the future. Whitley is a good student who has committed to Virginia Tech.
