Hunter Varnum is a 2012 RHP/1B with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Pacific Palisades, CA who attends Palisades Charter HS. Tall slender build. Works from stretch, very low hand set, cross body side arm release point, mid thigh, comes from way over by 3B, arm is loose and easy but lacks whip, low effort release. Fastball topped at 77 mph, some sink/run but not consistent, spots FB well to low corners to both sides. Big sweeping curveball mostly to RHH'ers, gets good spin, uses knuckleball as change to LHH'ers, worked well with consistent arm speed. Threw strikes and worked ahead in counts, predictably effective. Outstanding student.
