Ryan Allen is a strong and very projectable 6-2, 180 lb right handed pitcher/corner infielder from Oklahoma. He's probably one of the more "equal" two-way prospects you are likely to see and it's difficult to say at this point where his talents might be best suited for. Hopefully some college coach will decide to give him a chance both ways. On the mound, Allen has a short, quick arm circle with some wrap on his curveball. He throws a bit across his body and has a high 3/4's release point that creates good plane to the plate. Allen's fastball topped out at 85 mph. His best pitch is a 78 mph change up that has excellent running and sinking action to it. Allen maintains perfect arm speed on his change and with its movement and deception it’s a strikeout pitch for him. He made some hitters take some very bad swings with it. Allen's curveball is 70-73 mph and gets fair spin and break and it would improve if he were able to release it further out front. Has a hitter, Allen has very strong and fast hands. He gets very little extension with his hands through the ball but the ball still jumps off his bat with authority. Allen could develop big-time power in the future with some adjustments and he's pretty good right now. He plays first base defensively, probably as a concession to being a primary pitcher, but he has the athleticism and tools to play third base or a corner outfield position. Allen is an excellent student. Very good follow, especially for a program that is interested in a 2-way talent.
