2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Dyer is a 5-11, 165 lb left handed outfielder from Texas who also shows some talent on the mound. He has very good speed and was one of the fastest runners at the showcase. Dyer also threw 84 mph from the outfield and looks to be a nice defensive outfielder who can play centerfield. When he's balanced at the plate, Dyer showed good bat speed through zone from a low hand position swing and a line drive swing plane. Too often during games Dyer took a weak swing while pulling off towards first base, almost as if a well meaning coach had told him to try to use his speed and get down to first base faster. Dyer put some good swings on the ball when he stayed through contact. As a left handed pitcher, Dyer showed a loose, compact arm action from a full wind up and a high 3/4's release point. His fastball was steady at 80-81 mph and he showed some good spin on a 68 mph curveball. Dyer commanded his pitches and looked like he knew what he was doing on the mound. He is an excellent student.
