2003 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
A couple of weeks after the event, as this report is being written, Andrews’ performance in Chapel Hill has already opened numerous college opportunities according to Andrews’ summer coach. Well it should. The slender 5-10, 150 lb. right hander was probably the most dominant pitcher at the event. Andrews throws from a sidearm to submarine release point and does a great job of hiding the ball behind his body in his windup so that the ball looks like it’s coming straight out of anywhere from his hip to lower leg. He throws his fastball between 77 and 81 mph with plenty of running and sinking action and has the ability to spot the ball on either side of the plate. In fact, Andrews seems to prefer to pound the ball inside on right handed hitters rather than pitch away. Andrews’ breaking ball is a surprisingly sharp, for his release point, 66 mph curveball that freezes hitters. His different look, his excellent command and his seemingly fierce competitiveness made for plenty of very quick, and sometimes embarrassing outs. He's also a top line student.
