2015 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Lael Lockhart, Jr. is a 2016 1B/LHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Friendswood, TX who attends Friendswood HS. Well proportioned very athletic build, good present strength and looseness. Outstanding defensive first baseman, impacts the game with his soft hands and range. Switch hitter, best we've seen him righthanded, improved bat speed with a short and quick path to the ball, stayed quiet and on line and drove the ball with power. Loose and easy left handed with similar bat speed and lots of LCF lift. Top two-way prospect, easy low effort delivery, smooth repeatable mechanics, quick and compact arm circle, 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 88 mph, has good plane to the plate and good fastball life at the plate. Tight spinning curveball with good depth and spin, change up has good fade and arm speed. Throws to both sides of the plate with purpose and can mix his pitches. Has steadily improved throughout his high school career and is always fun to watch play. Good student, verbal commitment to Houston.
