Blake Newman is a 2016 3B/1B/RHP with a 6-4 210 lb. frame from Chandler, AZ who attends Seton Catholic HS. Large frame with an athletic build and present strength. Right handed hitter with balanced stance, leg lift trigger and high back elbow set. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Shows strength at contact with an uphill swing plane that creates leverage through extension. Primarily uses a gap to gap approach but shows to barrel control to work the baseball to all fields. Swing with intent and flashes the bat speed to drive the baseball deep into the gaps. Worked out defensively from the infield a low arm cirlce while separating with a smooth paced glove to hand exchange. Loose, easy arm action while throwing across the infield. Very accurate throws across with good carry. Flashed effiecent first step angles when moving to each side with developing range. Also pitched showing quick torso and lower half actions over front side. High three-quarters arm slot that produces good arm side run on a fastball, topped at 85 mph. Also drops to a sidearm slot creating additional run in the low 80's. Slider had shart tilt and was very deceptive with late break. Can manipulate shape of slider to give more downward depth. Good feel for a changeup that has deceptive, fading action down in the zone. Three all three pitches form the high three-quarters slot and sidearm slot. Shows good command from both arm slots with the ability to work each edge of the plate. Good two way prospect. Grades better as a pitching prospect at this time. Good student as well.
